I spent hours reading reviews of chin-up bars, and was just about ready to buy the Iron Gym. Glad I did not. We discovered that a friend had an Iron Gym, and borrowed it to see if it fits our doors. The Iron Gym did not fit any of our doors. The reason is simple. The iron gym has no adjustments. Our walls are too thick for the Iron Gym.

Better than the Iron Gym, fits large door mouldings

I bought the Iron Gym and despite its garish, masculine box featuring an oiled up man proclaiming how I would GET STRONG.. GET RIPPED.. QUICK, it couldn't handle my large, manly door mouldings (between 4.5-5 inches tall, depending on how you measure, wink wink), and there was no way to adjust the product to fit, rendering it useless to me. The Perfect Multi-Gym allows you to adjust the product to fit different moulding heights and door thicknesses, and was able to handle my moulding when adjusted to the largest setting. My doorframe is 6.5 inches thick from front to back, and I had a setting to spare. It could certainly handle a 7.5" thick doorframe, but 8" might be pushing it.

An excellent multi-gym with a few mods

*December 2013 update: After 5 months of using this pull-up bar, it's still going strong. Nothing is bent out of shape, everything is like I just bought it. The mods I mention in my original review are still going strong too.

I originally had the "Iron Gym" pull up bar, and used that for a couple of years. I found myself having to re-touch the paint on the door frame far too frequently, therefore I set out to find something better.

Adjustable Mounting set apart from rest.

This is a good pull up bar for the price. I also like to use it for push ups because it doesn't put strain on my wrists. Unlike the iron gym total upper body workout bar, you can also adjust it to fit thicker door frames.

Sturdy enough / may damage doorframe / good enough for the price / some caveats

I searched Amazon for "pull up bars" and never did find this "Multi Gym" - I live in a rental home, and most of the door-frame pull-up bars have a small round bar that contacts the door trim, and even though they're padded I'm concerned about my 200+ pound weight hanging from the bar causing damage to the door trim.

Widest bar I could find, fits 35" doors (others just 32")

Although it barely fits, the wide metal plates feel like they're securely attached, I just have to be careful lining it up.
